Part II: “Tonight Looks Good On You”

When it comes to makeup my absolute most favorite part are the EYES! Your eyes are the focal point of your face and it’s what everyone looks at. In my opinion, your eyes can express without having to say anything exactly how you feel. Whenever I am asked to do makeup for friends or family they always want me to do their EYES, if nothing else. In Brittany’s class she also talked a lot about the Eyes! So, let’s “Take A Look” at some of her favorite products and tips.

Step 7: EYES

Step 1: Prep:

As mentioned in Part I, primer is necessary for your foundation to go on smoothly and not run or crease and the same goes for the eyes. Brittany uses Benefit Cosmetics “Stay Don’t Stray” as her eye primer. To apply you will want to take your ring finger and apply primer all over eyelid up to the brow.

Step 8: Eyeshadow

Brittany used the Morphe Neutral Eye Shadow Palette & the Morphe Glam Palette – Ok, so both of these palettes have 35 different colors and each palette is only about $30! How can you beat that many eyeshadows for that price?!?! I have just ordered mine, so I will do my favorite shades in a future post. Jaclyn Hill (another of my most favorite makeup artists) also loves and uses Morphe Cosmetics. Brittany loves gold tones she said and almost wears them everyday (as do I). Golds and browns are really good for every eye color and skin tone. The Morphe Neutral Palette has so many different shades and it really is up to you and how you feel that day as to what colors you chose. When applying eyeshadow Brittany always applies a white shadow to the lid first (which makes whatever color you put on top “Pop” even more). A great set of brushes for eyeshadows are the Real Techniques Eyeshadow Brush Starter Set . Application of eyeshadow varies from person to person, but Brittany took a medium matte brown with her buffing brush and blended it into the crease of the eye and then from the outside crease to the outside lid (this makes the eye appear larger). The BEST TIP ever is to BLEND, BLEND, BLEND! The more you blend the more natural it looks. Brittany then picked a gorgeous shimmer shade from the palette and applied it to the lid. Once she did that she picked a darker brown and took her crease brush (which looks like the larger buffing eyeshadow brush but much smaller and more compact) and ran it only into the crease. After this she took a clean eyeshadow buffing brush and started blending the darker shade and the medium brown that was applied first. Blending the two together makes the eye appear even larger!!

Step 9: EYELINER

Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner – Brittany said this was her FAVORITE eyeliner and it’s nice because it glides right onto the eye. She took the eyeliner from the inside corner of the eye and drew along the lash line and did a small “wing” at the end. A lot of women are afraid of the wing or can’t get it right, but no worries if you mess up just go back in with some concealer and a small angled brush and “erase” what you don’t like. Brittany does not do “eyeliner” under her bottom lashes. Instead of eyeliner, Brittany takes the tiny angled brush that comes in the Real Techniques Eyeshadow Starter kit wets it and picks up a dark brown, black or any shade of eyeshadow and runs it along the lower lash line. She likes this for her bottom lashes because she said she can color play and it doesn’t look as harsh as black liner.

Step 10: Eyelashes:

Ok, I know this is the SCARY part! It took me years before I tried to apply my first pair of eyelashes, but I am HOOKED and you will be too! Brittany doesn’t use the expensive lashes you would think she actually used the Kiss Demi Wispies lashes you can find at your local drugstore or ULTA. Brittany was asked the question on her favorite style lash and she said she liked the demi wispies the best because they are more “natural” looking. One extra tip: All lashes do not fit everyone so before you do anything lay them on top of your current lashes and see if they are too long. Most of the time I have to trim a tiny bit from the inner corner of the lash to make them fit perfectly. After fitting the lashes to your eye all you do is apply DUO lash adhesive to the strip, wait about 15-20 seconds while the glue becomes “tacky” and gently place above the lashes trying to get as close to the inner corner as possible. I like to use the “butt” of the tweezers to press the lashes into place and make sure they are on my eye securely. If you do mess up, its not the end of the world and you can always pull them off, wait for the glue on your lid to dry and try again 🙂 I would practice a few times before trying to do it when you have to go somewhere 😉

Step 11: Mascara:

After the eyelashes are finished an in place it’s time for MASCARA!! Brittany loves the TOO Faced “Better Than Sex” Mascara. Mascara is probably the easiest step: you just take the wand and wiggle between the lashes to separate. Apply both to the top and bottom lashes!

Step 12: Eyebrows:

Am I the only one who feels like FULL VOLUMINOUS Eyebrows are all the rage?!? About 3 months ago I realized how thin my eyebrows were and I have been trying to grow them out ever since and the process is sooo HARD and ANNOYING! However, while you are waiting to grow them out or even if you aren’t and just want perfectly sculpted brows this next product is the Holy Grail of eyebrow products: the Anastasia Brow Wiz. This brow pencil makes ALL the difference and I will do a before and after blog post soon so you can really see how much of a difference it can make. Before you can fill-in your brows you need to know where they should begin and end. To figure this out, lay the pencil against the inside corner of the eye and follow it straight up. Where the pencil comes close to the eyebrow is where it is supposed to start. To find out where it should end you take the pencil and make a diagonal line from the inner corner of your eye to the corner of your brow and that’s how far the tail of the brow should come. To begin filling them in, draw a line with the pencil from where your brow should start and draw slightly diagonal and that is where the arch should come. Then take the pencil and in upwards light strokes draw upwards all the way to the arch. It’s key to do upwards strokes so your eyebrows appear “natural'” and not drawn on. Then take the pencil and lightly fill in the tail and if your eyebrows are not long enough you can extend the tail to where it should be.

Step 13: Lips:

When it comes to lips Brittany loves Neutrals! She used a lip pencil by brand Sorme in color “Tease” and paired it with TOO Faced Lipstick in color “Melted Chihuahua.”

Step 14: NOW WHERE ARE WE GOING?!?!
