Happy Tuesday loves! Today I thought I would just pop-in and update you all on my top favorites so far for my 2nd trimester! We have 2 more weeks to go before we are rounding into the 3rd trimester and I can’t believe how fast the time has gone! I wanted to share a few of my symptoms since this second trimester and some of my must have items I have been using/wearing (if you are at all interested 🙂 ). So here we go…
The second trimester for me physically has been pretty easy! My nausea subsided at 13 weeks and I was so thankful! I had to take the hormone progesterone for the entire 1st trimester due to my miscarriage history. I had quite a few questions from other women who may have experienced miscarriages so I wanted to mention this and say that from my experience progesterone really helped maintain the pregnancy (and my sanity) and after lots of research it’s very common for women to have to take this hormone (which is naturally being made in your body during pregnancy anyway) so if you are curious about it and your doctor hasn’t recommended it, it may be worth asking about. I have also been put on a baby aspirin regime for the entire pregnancy as well due to my history and everything is going great with me and baby so I felt I should just mention that too!
When the 2nd trimester came and I was able to get off the extra hormone I felt a little less exhausted and truly a lot like my pre-pregnancy self! I had lots more energy and I was able to start back walking daily and trying to get my diet back on track! I always told myself I was going to eat SUPER healthy during pregnancy for the baby, but in the 1st trimester the idea of salads and lots of veggies made my stomach turn! I pretty much lived on CARBS! However, in the 2nd trimester I was able to have my salads, fish and veggies again which made me very happy! Around weeks 15-16 I began having mild “pulling” sensations in my pelvis and found out this was totally normal and actually VERY COMMON; it’s called Round Ligament Pain and boy can it be slightly painful! After a few weeks it sort of subsided and then about week 22 it kicked back up pretty strong and even worse since little man is growing so much! This is a small price to pay for a sweet healthy baby, however, it is very uncomfortable and makes my walk look like I just stepped off of a horse! My doctor said all of these symptoms are completely normal and there are even some chiropractors who specialize in massages specifically designed for this pain!
I am finally getting to the place where it’s all starting to feel VERY REAL that I am going to be a Mommy soon! Picking the name for our sweet son has been by far the hardest task thus far… My husband and I spent weeks going through name books, getting suggestions from family and friends and after TONS of debate we chose his name to match the initials of my husband (which are BCB) and his name is going to be: BRAYDEN CHRISTOPHER BOYD! My husband’s middle name is also Christopher so we are keeping it close to his name, but giving our son his own little identity. There was something about finalizing a name that solidified everything in my mind and I love it!
As far as on the day to day our little man is VERY active! He kicks his mom all day everyday and pretty much all night (which I LOVE and am so thankful for!) I am also in the process of finalizing my registry and have found I am OBSESSED with BUY BUY BABY and all of their help! I literally spent from 10am-4pm in their store registering about two weeks ago and could not believe the amazing products offered to both mommies and babies! If you are pregnant and looking to create a registry, I HIGHLY recommend them! I am also registering at Pottery Barn Kids for things like bedding, furniture and pretty items for his room! I will try to share a few of my favorite registry items as well including things like the car seat I chose and the stroller since they are such expensive investment pieces!
I wanted to quickly share a few HOT TOPICS during the 2nd trimester and how I have been faring thus far:
Working out… I was pretty anxious about overexerting myself during this pregnancy and so I do the least intense exercise of them all… WALKING! I TRY to walk around 30 minutes a day! Some days I fall short due to lack of energy or sometimes because of ’round ligament’ pains making moving a chore…. I do however know how important it is to keep moving and being the active person that I always have been it is killing me not to be doing pilates and more intense moves, but I will do anything for this little guy so I am taking it easy until he’s born! I will say the walks usually give me a burst of energy afterwards that helps me power through chores and things around the house so I use this to help motivate me! I also feel like if I walk I can have an extra serving of dessert (I mean you do what you have to, right 😉 )
Cravings…. I really have not had any since the 1st trimester! There are days I crave sugar more than others, but overall I have not had strong aversions or cravings this trimester! I will say I eat more frequently (every 2-3 hours) and have to have snacks at all times; Goldfish are my go-to right now!
Weight Gain… During the entire 1st trimester I gained 5lbs… Now that the baby is growing so much more I am also seeing the scales increase and have gained a total of 14lbs. as of my 25 week appointment. My doctor’s told me the typical weight gain for me for this entire pregnancy was anywhere between 25-35lbs. I am not really worried about the scales because I know my body is growing a little human, but I thought I would mention numbers just to give you all a rough estimate!
Products I am Loving for Stretch Marks (I don’t have any yet, so fingers CROSSED!)… Mama Mio Tummy Rub Oil & Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter
Both of the Mama Mio products have mild smells and absorb so great into skin and I use them both morning and evening!
Clothes… Wow! Clothing has finally gotten difficult! I will say my pants started getting too tight around 16 weeks and I never really liked the ‘rubberband’ trick so I had to break down and find some items I love! I am going to link them below 🙂 My top size is pretty much the same right now as it always has been except around the bust on some blouses! I am finally starting to wear more fitted pieces since the ‘bump’ is larger and doesn’t just look like weight gain! Below is a list of items I am wearing pretty much daily/weekly that I highly suggest!
Leith Ruched Body Con Dress (I have in 3 colors and have size Medium)
J Brand Mama J Maternity Jeans (size 27; order your regular size)
Lululemon Align Legging (go up 1 size)
Yumi Kim Class Act Dress (wearing a medium – ON SALE)
Free People Woodstock Cardigan – Great spring cardigan
Lou & Grey Sweater (I wear this DAILY; its soooo soft! I bought a large so it would be slouchy)
I am also going to have a small boutique below with great maternity options and all you have to do is click the item you like and it will take you to purchase! I have put a few items I own and love that are also great options for 2nd trimester!
I hope you all enjoyed this bump update and if you have any suggestions on items you are loving please don’t hesitate to reach out via DM or email! Lots of love to you all! XOXO!
