Happy Tuesday ya’ll! Today I AM THRILLED to share a fun children’s post! If you all have been following me since the beginning you may remember a board game one of our friends, Brian Calhoun, designed named: CHICKAPIG! Brian is from Charlottesville, VA and he and I became friends when my husband had him and his amazing team at Rockbridge Guitar build him a guitar! If anyone in your family plays guitar you HAVE to check them out as well! During the guitar creating and building process we would visit Brian’s shop and one day I noticed a funny little figurine in his home and asked about it! This was Brian he told me about his idea and vision for a boardgame called CHICKAPIG! At the time he was just doing a sort of ‘trial run’ creating custom games out of his home and had friends and family helping him make his dream come true, so of course I was interested! When the game initially came out there were handmade pieces and large beautiful wooden boards that a group of 4 could play! We purchased one of the original CHICKAPIG boardgames and played with our friends and had a BLAST! Ultimately the game is a fun-filled strategic board game where chicken-pig hybrids attempt to reach their goals while dodging opponents. The game is challenging similar to chess (but ANYONE can play!) We would go to Charlottesville to hang out wth Brian and our nights were filled with playing the game at a local brewery in Charlottesville while meeting fun new friends! It was so amazing how the game brought everyone together and created a sense of community in the town! The game continued to gain traction and Brian had to start producing his games on a larger scale to meet demand!
About a year ago Brian mentioned to us that he was working on a children’s book with the main character of the book being the CHICKAPIG (chicken-pig hybrids) from his board game! During this time I was pregnant with Brayden and couldn’t wait to hear more! A little over a month or so ago we had a special delivery in the mail and Brian sent our little Brayden a finished copy of, LITTLE JOE CHICKAPIG A Story About Following Your Dreams, for us to read and WE LOVE IT! The illustrations are stunning, the story is so inspiring and lets children know that they can do ANYTHING they put their mind to! The book truly blew me away at the composition and the story!
TODAY is SOOO exciting because both Brian’s board game (perfect for the ENTIRE family) and his inspiring children’s book are hitting every TARGET store nationwide!
